I am struck speechless; unnerved; benighted by a total (but all too transient) eclipse. The cause? A radiant angel -- aloft and untouchable -- skating across a sun of ice!Upon seeing this skater in the sky, I am transported to a world where there is no me. There is only she. She appears as an image. But there is more to her than image. Different from her peers, she excels over them. But she does not exalt over them. No. That sort of thing is simply not in her nature. Rather, it is simply in her nature to skate. And skate she does. Spectacularly.What she does goes beyond belief. Who she is is beyond beautiful.I shudder at the sights and sounds of those sickening serpents (in human form) who slither through the sewers; reach up from down below; break through the ice; yank this poor girl's skates out from underneath her; trip her up; watch her fall; laugh with glee; and then call her "dope." Thus, the ugly and the base glorify themselves by bringing down the exalted and the beautiful.Are such serpentine personages Human? Yes? Well then, dare I ask, where is their Humanity? Why, can't you see! Have you no eyes!! They have freed themselves from their Humanity. They are wolves in the wild now. And they run with the pack.They, the many, the multitude, the mob are armed to their sharpened teeth with the latest technology. They surround their poor little victim: a tiny defenseless fifteen-year-old girl who must go out on the ice alone, all by herself, and perform! perform!! perform!!! -- as if the weight of the world were not on her shoulders.Of course she fell! How could she not fall? They made her fall.
